Third Rail Mobility's new battery Tips

For every gadget that claims to charge an iPhone on the go, there's sure to be a constituency that swears by it (or quite possibly at it). With external battery packs from HyperMac, Zagg, Kensington, Newer andMonoprice, you can dangle a cable; with battery-equipped cases from Exogear, Boost and Kensington you can keep your extra joules right next to your phone. We've seen some clever inventions (the RichardSolo 1800, the PowerEZ) and too-clever ones (the XPower charger-in-a-cable), but precious few options that give you power when you need it without adding weight, aggravation and charging hassles.Dell inspiron 9400 laptop battery
Since Macworld Expo this year, I've been happily using the US$79.99 mophie juice pack air with my iPhone 4 when I need extended power. It's light (about 68 grams), packs a solid 1500 mAh battery (Acer as07b31 BatteryHp pavilion dv4 battery) and charges reliably and simply with a Micro USB cable. It's a great product, but it does bulk up the phone substantially; if you carry the iPhone in a pocket, you'll notice the difference in weight and size (mophie's 2000 mAh product, the $99.95 juice pack plus, adds even more bulk and mass). I also don't need extra power most of the time; it's only when I've got a busy day on the road and I can't charge here and there. If there were a way to get the all-in-one convenience of the juice pack without having to carry the battery all the time, I'd love it.
That's why I was excited to check out Third Rail Mobility's new battery & case system for the iPhone 4, developed by a family of entrepreneurs who say they aren't afraid to touch the 'third rail' of mobile consumer electronics in addressing poor battery life. The system, on sale today, pairs a slimline 1250 mAh battery with a light protective case. But this battery comes off, attaching firmly when you need it and staying out of the way in your bag or jacket when you don't. I've been testing a prerelease unit for the past week, hoping to figure out if it truly is the best of both worlds.
The Third Rail system includes the iPhone 4 case and a single 'Smart Battery' bundled together (SRP is $89.99), although both components will also be available separately ($39.99 for the case and $59.99 for additional batteries). The case is straightforward black, and fits snugly on the iPhone 4 with a bit of effort. Alone, the case weighs 26 grams; that's scarcely more than the 20-gram Gumdrop plain plastic case seen in the 'family photo' above (the mophie is on the left, the Gumdrop in the middle, and the Third Rail on the right, battery disconnected). Once you put it on the iPhone, it feels like any other well-made slim case; the rubberized sides give it a bit of grip, and the wide control cutout on the left side accomodates both AT&T and Verizon models. At the bottom, there are audio vents similar to the ones on the juice pack, plus a Micro USB port for charging and a charge/idle switch.
The business side of the case is the back, where there are four slots and a three-contact charge connector lying flat. That's where the Smart Battery snaps on, locking into place quite firmly and providing power when needed. The battery is less than a centimeter deep and, surprisingly, doesn't make the phone uncomfortable to hold or knock it off balance. Once you connect it, flip the charge/idle switch from orange (bypass) to black (charge) and off you go.
The bottom of the battery features a charge indicator button, plus a standalone Micro USB charging port and a custom 'Out' port. Yes, that Out port means what you think it means: you can use the Smart Battery to charge other things, not just your iPhone. With the included adapter, you get a USB female port that you can attach to the charging cable for your Kindle, your Bluetooth headset, your GPS -- even your iPad, although it will trickle-charge rather than the full 10W quick-charge. That's the kind of flexibility that will let you leave a heavier/bulkier battery pack (Mitac bp-8050 BatterySony vgp-bps2 Battery) behind for short trips.
The battery pack's tricks don't end with USB power for other gadgets. The same locking tabs that connect it to the phone case allow you to stack up to 6 Third Rail Smart Batteries atop each other; plug in the bottom one and they'll all charge up eventually, which makes this an interesting solution for businesses that want to offer battery extenders for employees on the go. If you connect multiple Smart Batteries without attaching the power cord, they'll negotiate amongst themselves to consolidate the available power and provide as many fully-charged batteries as possible (the 40 percent-charged battery will drain to charge the 75 percent-charged battery, for example). Third Rail says the batteries will be fully transferable to future case designs, so if you switch up to an iPhone 5 someday you can keep your batteries for the new case.
When combined with the battery, the Third Rail system weighs only a hair less than the juice pack (65 grams vs. 68 grams), giving it a similar heft and pocket impact. The juice pack's curved lines and battery shroud make it theoretically less likely to snag on clothing, but the TR battery hugs the case quite closely -- I didn't have any problems with snaggage while I used it.
The charging mojo of the Third Rail system was substantial. I was able to take my in-use phone from 10% charge up to 60% in less than two hours while taking the Smart Battery from full charge down to zero. By comparison, the mophie juice pack's slightly larger battery makes it up to about 65-70% charge from 10% in about the same amount of time.

Our products range include replacement computer batteries for most major laptop brands, including Dell, Apple, Compaq/HP, IBM/Lenovo, Fujitsu, Gateway, Sony and Toshiba.
Many notebook manufacturers also sell extended batteries, which have nine- or even 12-cell capacity, providing a boost over a standard six-cell or older three-cell battery. In our recent review of the Hp nc6100 Battery(p. 30), a nine-cell battery added about 5 hours of battery life, while a 12-cell battery added roughly 12.5 hours. Sometime, companies also sell so-called battery slices, which you can snap in alongside a battery. In the case of the X220, this added another 5 hours.
Both PC and Mac owners will find a preset power management setting designed to conserve battery life. Under this setting, the computer will go to sleep sooner and the display won’t be as bright. You can also manually lower your screen’s brightness. PC users can click the battery icon in the system tray and then select “Power Saver.” If you own a Mac, click the battery icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Then click “Energy Saver Preferences.” When the energy settings menu appears, type either “conserve power” or “conserve battery” into the search bar in the upper left corner of the box. This will make your Mac more energy-efficient, putting the hard disk to sleep when possible and reducing the screen’s brightness before putting the display to sleep.
Let your PC improve itself.
Windows users can have the PC diagnose energy inefficiencies on its own, and then adjust the settings accordingly. In Windows 7, go to Control Panel > Troubleshooting > Systems and Security > Improve Power Usage. Then click through the on-screen dialog box.
Try To avoid over-charging, especially, do not let your laptop battery over discharged. It is normal for Hp 2230s batteryHp 364602-001 Battery, to become warm when it's charged and used. The battery exhaust much faster under the high temperature, you should avoid using your laptop battery in shady and cool place. Hit the battery, and other acts will also accelerate depletion of battery. So, pay attention to your battery as much as possible.
Use a full charge cycle before recharging. All laptop batteries in our site are Li-Ion batteries, so, they do not have memory which you might find in NiCad batteries. However, each chemistry has a limited number of charge cycles, so use a full charge cycle before re-charging to maximize your battery's usage. When charging your battery for the first time, your computer may indicate that charging is complete just after 10 or 15 minutes. Don't worry, this is normal with rechargeable batteries. Just simply remove the laptop battery from the laptop and repeat the charging procedure.

Recharge cell phones by talking | Battery Technology

Of the most important features in a mobile device, a solid battery life remains key. Luckily for us all, researches in South Korea have reportedly discovered a new way to recharge cell phones using nothing more than the power of the human voice. That’s right, talking — how convenient!
According to the Telegraph, engineers at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, South Korea, have developed a new type of battery that’s capable of transforming the energy in sound waves into electrical energy that can be used to power a wide range of devices. When used with a mobile phone, the technology can gin up a charge using not only speech, but all background noise — the louder the better. It even works when the cell phone(HP pavilion dv8000 BatteryHp dv9000 Batteries) is not in use.
“A number of approaches for scavenging energy from environments have been intensively explored,” said Dr. Sang-Woo Kim, who has been involved in developing the technology . “The sound that always exists in our everyday life and environments has been overlooked as a source. This motivated us to realise power generation by turning sound energy from speech, music or noise into electrical power.”
The sound-power technology wouldn’t only be useful for powering up your iPhone, says Dr. Sang-Woo Kim. It could also hold the answer for a more practical recharging method for electric cars.
“Sound power can be used for various novel applications including cellular phones that can be charged during conversations and sound-insulating walls near highways that generate electricity from the sound of passing vehicles,” he says. “The latter development would have the additional benefit of reducing noise levels near highways by absorbing the sound energy of vehicles.”
The new type of battery(Hp dv2000 BatteryHp dv6000 Laptop Battery) works using a sound absorbing pad that vibrates when hit by sound waves. This vibration is then transferred to tiny strands of zinc oxide wire, which contract and release with the vibrations, turning the energy of sound into electricity.
The battery is still in small-scale form, meaning it only works with very low-power devices. But the research team is confident that its energy-scavaging creation will eventually find its way onto a smartphone spec list in the not-too-distant future.

Battery Business - Lithium Battery Industry Keeps Going

If you open up your mobile phone, or laptop, or iPad, you'll find a lithium battery. If you own a hybrid or electric car, it's likely powered by a lithium battery as well. Lithium is a metal that's light and cheap, and it is increasingly the material of choice for battery makers.

Lithium could, in the future, replace a lot of the oil we now use for energy — which raises questions about how much we can realistically rely on the metal. Seth Fletcher, senior editor atPopular Science, explores this in a new book, called Bottled Lightning: Superbatteries, Electric Cars and The New Lithium Economy.
Lithium Logistics
"You have to store metallic lithium in oil, otherwise it tarnishes," Fletcher explains to NPR's Steve Inskeep. "Actually, it's so volatile it doesn't exist in nature in its pure form. So if you're mining for lithium, you never find big arm-sized veins of lithium metal because they just don't exist."
Most of the world's lithium, Fletcher says, comes from a series of salt lakes in a high-altitude region where Bolivia, Chile and Argentina meet. It's called the "lithium triangle."
"Over the years, the water has absorbed minerals and settled sony laptop batteries,Hp 510 Battery,Hp dv2000 Battery in these giant salt sponges and now there's this rich brine," he says.
When the water evaporates, it leaves behind an olive oil-like substance that has a small percentage of lithium, which is then processed into lithium carbonate, a white powder. And according to Fletcher, there's more than enough to meet the rising demand.
"I don't know of any serious person in the automotive industry or in the lithium industry who believed that there is a serious, long-term supply problem," he says. "In fact, for the next 10 years there will probably be an oversupply of Dell vostro 1500 Batteries,Dell vostro 1510 Batterybecause so many companies have now moved into the market."
And unlike the impact of mining other natural resources, concentrating lithium is and "environmentally benign" process, Fletcher says. "It's about as low impact as mining can get. They're really just pumping water up ... And there are really no toxic chemicals in a lithium-ion battery."
'A Gaping Hole In The Grid'
By using lithium batteries to store energy — say, from a wind farm or a bank of solar cells — Fletcher believes that energy can be more efficiently stored.
"What a lot of companies are working on right now is building gigantic banks of lithium-ion batteries that can store energy from power plants," he says. "Right now we don't store energy effectively at all. That's a big gaping hole in the grid right now."
A limiting factor to the batteries, however, is the amount they can store and how quickly they can be recharged. While companies work to produce better ,Dell latitude d630 Battery,Dell vostro 1000 Battery, Fletcher argues, people should take advantage of the current uses.
"Batteries are going to get better, but we don't have a battery that can power a car for 500 miles and then recharge in 15 minutes," he says. "It's going to be a long time before we have that battery, but the batteries we do have right now can do a lot of incredibly useful things and they can do them very efficiently and affordably. I think we would be wise to use them to do those things while we're simultaneously developing future chemistries that maybe could power a car 500 miles and recharge in 15 minutes."

Top heros for iPhone and iPad

If you’re the kind of player who gets attached to characters and enjoys niceties like saved games, fair fights, or, god forbid, storylines, then 100 Rogues might not be what you’re looking for in your leisure time. But if you’re one of those sick people that thinks games should be tough enough to make you cry when you’re supposed to be having fun, read on, because you’re probably going to like this.alt
Hardcore Heroics
The word to describe 100 Rogues is Hardcore, especially since like many “hardcore” modes in RPGs, dying in 100 Rogues is permanent.
I have only played the game a couple of times as the Crusader (one of three playable classes) and the farthest I’ve ever gotten is level nine. I did feel a little mightier as I levelled up Acer lcbtp03003 Battery,Apple a1175 Battery,  but that genuine fear of death never dissipated, since going down a dungeon level makes enemies scale up in difficulty.
Combat in 100 Rogues is 2D and turn-based, requiring you to simply tap in one of four directions to move. If something should get in your way — like, say, a bandit — you have the option to try and walk through it by cleaving it in half (a.k.a. Fighting it). Combat is simple to start with, but gets a lot more interesting when enemies teleport, hurl fireballs, or are just plain indestructible.
Luckily my Crusader had (past tense — he’s freaking dead now) a set of interesting abilities of his own. I had built him like a tank, so his shield could nullify attacks from multiple angles, and he had used his main weapon (called “Sword”) for so long that he had mastered it and could dish out more damage and land critical hits with greater frequency. He also had an interesting passive ability called “Faith” which would have the finger of God intermittently smite enemies down and provide some much needed healing.
Aaaargh
Suffice it to say that the RPG elements and the basic combat in 100 Rogues is actually quite involving and fun (and that’s before the boss fights that occur every five dungeon levels). But here is why I might not pick it up again after I’m finished with this review.
First of all, killing monsters doesn’t always reward you with loot, and adventurers in this game require a steady diet of health, mana, and ammunition, so there will simply be times where 100 Rogues just feels like a dungeon-shaped desert. This adds to the thrill and sense of desperation, but it’s also just kinda cheap.
alt
This feeling of being kidney shot by the game is compounded by the fact that you can also get hungry, which is an aspect of real life that I always hate Dell gw240 Laptop Battery,Dell inspiron 1000 Battery seeing in games. To date, I have yet to have starvation as a direct cause of death, but it has certainly made the game less fun. There were all sorts of cool upgrades I had to forego because I had to spend my  hard-earned, blood-stained money on a haunch of meat to feed my belly instead of buying a bigger sword to feed my bloodlust. Lame.
Speaking of Bigger…
100 Rogues is a universal app, but it’s actually a *lot* more fun on the iPhone than on the iPad, thanks to the slightly clumsy control scheme. Since 100 Rogues regards a tap on a non-UI portion of the screen is regarded as movement, it’s far too easy to accidentally skip a turn by moving, when what you really meant to do was use a healing potion from the quick menu. I can understand why this movement system works best on the iPhone, but it’s a big problem on the iPad, and I would have much preferred some sort of invisible directional pad to control my character.
