Research In Motion, whose BlackBerry smartphone first caught on with corporate customers, has been drawing interest in its PlayBook tablet from developers of consumer applications, including games and magazines.

The device will come preloaded with programs such as “Tetris,” the building-block puzzle game, and the Kobo e-book reader. Sports fans will also be able to browse an online version of Pro Football Weekly magazine.
RIM, which hasn’t had as much success as Apple or Google in getting independent developers to create consumer apps for the BlackBerry, is trying to gain ground with the PlayBook, which goes on sale April 19. The tablet will have a new operating system, a dual-core processor, and the capability to play applications for Google’s Android platform(Dell inspiron b120 Battery,Dell kd476 Battery).
“It’s one of the fastest devices out there,” said Travis Boatman, senior vice president at Electronic Arts, the second-largest video-game publisher. “You take a good software environment and great hardware, you’ve got a device that designers and developers can create great content on.”

RIM is debuting the PlayBook as it tries to combat market share losses in the smartphone business to Apple and companies that use Android, including Motorola Mobility.
RIM may sell 250,000 PlayBooks in its fiscal first quarter, which began Feb. 27, and 5.4 million over the year, said Alkesh Shah, an analyst with Evercore Partners Inc.
While RIM shares have climbed 18 percent since the PlayBook was unveiled Sept. 27, the stock slid 11 percent March 25 after the company said it will have to spend more to develop and market the PlayBook, a lower-margin device than the company’s overall product range.
RIM is opening the PlayBook to Android apps to give customers a wider range of choices. There are more than 150,000 apps in the Android Market, compared with more than 25,000 in BlackBerry App World and more than 350,000 in Apple’s App Store.
Software tools for making Android apps work on the PlayBook will be available this summer, said Tyler Lessard, who heads up RIM’s developer(Acer aspire one zg5 Battery,Acer batbl50l6 Battery) relations.
Android is the world’s fastest-growing smartphone platform and is also gaining tablet market share. Android tablets captured 22 percent of global shipments in the three months to Dec. 31, up from 2.3 percent in the preceding quarter, according to Strategy Analytics.

“Developers really struggled to create apps for BlackBerrys” before, said Shah, who is based in New York. He rates RIM “overweight.” “The ability for developers to port Android makes it a more compelling tablet.”

Top 6 features that we think the Apple iPhone 5


This is to be expected though with June/July (AKA iPhone announcement season) fast approaching. Thing is, Apple never lets anything slip – the company is on lockdown 24/7 365 days a year.
So, rather than attempting to guess what the iPhone 5 will feature (as we’ve already done here) we’ve decided to compile a list of our must-wanted features for the iPhone 5 instead.
This way, we can say what we want and when Apple fails Asus a32-f3 Battery to deliver it we can write lots of horrible stuff about it. Perfect.

A5 dual core processor 
Apple upped the ante with the iPad 2 introducing its dual core Apple A5 chip into the mix. It’s been whipping Nvidia’s Tegra 2 CPU in benchmarks the globe-over since it launched and brings up to nine-times better graphics processing. In short, Apple’s A5 chip is immense – hence why we want Dell studio 1537 battery it in the iPhone 5.
Obviously, a CPU is only as good as a device’s RAM and we also hope that Apple ups the iPhone 5’s to the 1GB mark too. Not only would this bring the iPhone 5 inline with the current front-runners of the smartphone market, but it’d also ensure that the iPhone 5 is blisteringly fast.
4-inch Retina Display 
One of the big things that people, including us, love about the iPhone 4 is its Retina Display, which is one of the best mobile displays currently on the market – and that’s nearly a year after it first landed.

Granted, 3.5-inches used to cut the mustard back in 2009, but things have changed somewhat and with all the media, games and apps that are now available we think it is a necessity that Apple ups the iPhone 5’s display to the 4-inch mark.

64GB SSD

Whether more storage will materialise remains to be seen. We might just have to settle for better cloud facilities in the end, which would be slightly irritating as you’ll have to cut into your data plan to utilise this on the move.

Come on Apple, give us more storage – 64GB would be fine.
Better call quality 
Speak to any iPhone user and they’ll tell you the iPhone is great, it’s just not that good at making and receiving calls. Specifically, the call quality isn’t particularly good.
This is something we’d like to see Apple remedy with the iPhone 5 because the device itself, regardless of what else it does, is a phone first and foremost. So, come on Apple, sort it out this time round.
Better battery life 
Apple made some massive improvements to the iPhone 4’s battery life, but it still wasn’t enough – we want more. 12 hours, 24 hours or even 72 hours – it really doesn’t matter. Dell gw240 Battery life is the one constant in the mobile phone world where users will constantly demand more and more until, well, you don’t have to charge your mobile device for months on end – this is the dream.bestlaptopbattery.co.uk

MicroSD support 
This is a big ask and one that in all likelihood will never be fulfilled. Apple won’t use microSD storage on its devices. We’ve been asking for it since the iPhone 3GS to avail – not that Apple actually listens to what KYM says.
Couple this with the distinct lack of microSD support on the iPad 2 and the probability of having microSD support on your next iPhone 5 device is extremely low – we’re talking 'Scotland winning the World Cup low.'

Some Windows Phone 7 customers can upgrade the software now. Some can get it later. And weeks ago, a few unlucky owners of a Windows Phone 7-powered Samsung phone bricked their handsets when they downloaded an update.

It turns out that delivering one substantial software update on multiple phones made by different manufacturers, on different carriers, isn’t a simple task at all, and Microsoft is still figuring out a solid process.
Microsoft’s not alone. The smartphone industry is controlled by a tangled web of interests, with hardware manufacturers and carriers holding sway. While mobile operating system vendors like Google and Apple have managed to wrest some control from the carriers, their moves aren’t easily repeatable.

With the Windows-powered Samsung Focus, some phones got an error when trying to install a minor update that updated the update mechanism, according to a Microsoft representative. Yes, it was an update that changed the way that phones are updated.
A technical glitch caused some phones to be interrupted in the middle of updating the update process. As a result, some Samsung Focus phones were bricked.
After that initial snafu with the Focus, Microsoft decided to proceed more cautiously and “deliberately” with a major update called “NoDo,” which brings copy and paste to Windows phones.
Some Windows Phone 7 handsets get to download the update now, while others have to wait. That’s partly because whenever a company such as Microsoft, Apple or Google wants to put out a software update, it has to allow the phone carrier to test the software on the network first for quality.

It seems like a mess, but it’s understandable considering this is a brand-new phone platform that’s barely even been on the market for a few months. Keep in mind that Apple has also had issues tied to carriers and software. When the iPhone 3GS launched, some people who bought the device couldn’t activate their phones all weekend, and Apple’s e-mail to customers Compaq nc6400 battery suggested it was an issue related to AT&T.
