NextComputing rolled-out a new battery powered portable workstation

Generally, industries such as military intelligence, oil and gas exploration, digital video production and network testing require high-performance hardware featuring full-powered CPUs, high-end 3D graphics, fast RAID storage, and PCI (News - Alert) expansion slots for their demanding and mission-critical applications. Typically, when in the field, these applications are developed using large, non-mobile systems or is scaled down to run on a laptop for mobility due to various constraints, thereby making the task difficult.
In an effort to provide such industries with a complete mobile power computing solution, NextComputing – a provider of portable workstations and dense, small-footprint servers – has rolled-out a new battery powered portable workstation,Radius EX-B.
Based on NextComputing’s (News - Alert) Radius EX all-in-one portable workstation, the new Radius EX-B is the latest addition to the company’s Radius series of mobile computers. Featuring a briefcase-like design, it is the company’s first portable system to feature an integrated battery - for total mobility. This enables the workstation to run for more than two hours on battery.
As a provider of extreme-performance portables and dense streaming rack-mount computers, NextComputing has built the new Radius EX-B mobile computer as a compact, all-in-one package that is easy to transport and set up. Apart from featuring true workstation and server performance, it features a 320W power supply with removable Lithium-ion battery pack and a built-in 17-inch widescreen, high-resolution (1920x1200) LCD monitor.
Built on workstation-class 2nd generation Intel (News - Alert) Core i7 Quad-Core processor or Intel Xeon E3-1200 series processor, the new Radius EX-B mobile computer has been provided with up to 32GB DDR3 memory using 8GB DIMMs; four full-length, full-height PCI Express and PCI expansion slots; integrated Intel HD Graphics or discrete professional graphics solutions from NVIDIA and AMD (News - Alert); and up to 6 terabytes (TB) of fixed or removable storage with multiple RAID options.

Showcasing a brief-case design, the new EX-B mobile computer is not only compact but also features an all-in-one chassis with comfortable leather handle and a convenient carrying case. An optional rolling case with telescoping handle or rugged MIL-STD-810F certified hard case is also provided along with the product.
According to NextComputing, the Radius EX-B can run completely un-tethered, without being plugged into a power source, for over two hours. Apart from enabling users to transport it from room to room within a facility without powering down, it can keep the unit running continuously in the event of a power failure. In addition, it can run the system in a remote environment where power is intermittent or unreliable such as military base station or trailer.
“Customers across many markets depend on our portable workstations and servers because they are the most flexible and capable mobile systems available, while also being the smallest and lightest,” said Bob Labadini, president and CTO of NextComputing, in a statement. “Because they are powerful, enterprise-class computers, these systems have traditionally required external power, usually from a wall outlet or a DC source like a vehicle.
