Apple has ambitious plans for the 2012 iPhone

Adding on to what they had already reported, The Wall Street Journal is reporting Apple has ambitious plans for the 2012 iPhone (yes we’re calling these by year now, get with the program), including a new way of charging.

According to them, Apple has been experimenting with various changes to introduce a new way of charging.
Investors expect a bigger boost to Apple’s phone business next year. People briefed on Apple’s plans said the company is planning a major iPhone revamp then, with one person saying the company has been experimenting with features such as a new way of charging the phone.

It’s not clear what exactly Apple plans to do. If we look at the phone market, we know that theres a number of third party cases and bases for “wireless” inductive charging. HP (formerly Palm) has even gone as far as introducing that as a feature for the Palm phones, with the Touchstone charging dock (which I have to admit looks rather nice).
Touchstone also goes beyond charging, letting you place the phone on a tablet and sharing URL’s, among other things. The idea of a new way of charging, perhaps without cables, fits perfectly with the new wireless sync and wireless backup in iOS 5, but we’ll have to wait and see what Apple does.
Apple are planning a 'complete revamp' of the popular handset for the iPhone 6, according to the Wall Street Journal, while it also suggested that Apple is working on a long-awaited smaller and cheaper version of the iPhone.
This budget model will feature an edge-to-edge display, and will target new markets in developing countries. Both the iPhone 6 and the budget version are expected to arrive in 2012.
Before any of this is finalised however, Apple's iPhone 5 is reportedly due to hit the shops in September this year.
