iPad 2 shortages may have started easing afterlife

Creating shortage looks like a successful marketing strategy for Apple. Best Buy turned away iPad 2 customers because of inventory supply shortage. Best Buy conceded that its employees were told to hold back the inventory.

"This is a customary practice for us when there are supply constraints," the company said in a statement. "Best Buy enjoys a great partnership with Apple, and we're delighted by customer response to the iPad 2."
Best Buy did not elucidate on the matter any further other than crediting the move for a future promotion.
There was always a supply shortage for ipad2 right from the beginning. People shop iPad as if they are treasure hunting. The more the shortage is the more they covet the device. This time Apple has not even given any Toshiba pa3534u-1bas battery provisions to reserve an iPad2. People were still ready to stand in long queues to but it. Other partners of Apple were Target and Wal-Mart.
iPad 2 shortages may have started easing in the U.S. but they're plaguing the afterlife in Malaysia: Chinese families there are scrambling to find paper replicas of the new tablet to burn at the tombs of their ancestors.
The practice is part of the annual and ancient Qingming festival, also known as the tomb sweeping festival. Chinese families throughout Asia honor their ancestors by burning fake money or replicas of luxury items such as flashy cars and designer bags, according to aReuters report from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
"I can only offer them the first iPad model," he says, pointing to shelves laden with the paper tablets and paper iPhones and Samsung Galaxy Tabs, according to the Reuters story.
Te sells both models, with an 888-gigabyte capacity ("an auspicious number in Chinese culture," says Reuters) for $1. Apple sells the basic 16-gigabyte iPad for $499.
But the paper high-tech gadgets are not for all the dead, many of whom of course predate the Digital Generations. Reuters: "They belong to the older generation," said Thomas Soong, 61, as he set fire to a pile of fake money at his grandmother's grave. "If you give all these so-called iPads, they don't know how to use it. So traditionally we give them shoes, shirts ... all the necessities."
Many companies, however, had been waiting for the upgraded iPad 2, which became available in Europe on March 25 in limited quantities, before making the switch.
Now, with Apple restricting the purchase of iPad 2 devices to two per customer because of component and product shortages, some companies Compaq 484170-001 battery have had to put their iPad plans on hold.
“In the UK the only tablet businesses want to view their board papers on right now is the iPad 2,” says Simon Small, Diligent Boardbooks’ managing director for licensing in Europe.
“Almost all of large organisations are now requesting their board papers on the iPad. The big problem Apple faces in the short term is meeting enterprise demand for the devices,” he said.
Apple, which has not explained the cause of the shortages, said: “Demand for the next generation iPad 2 has been amazing. We are working hard to get iPad 2 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible.”
Current tablet users of Diligent’s iPad app and web portal in the UK include Premier Farnell and Brit Insurance.
Most companies waiting for iPad 2 devices do not want to be identified. But Mr Small says the problem is widespread and affecting companies big and small. The Swiss multinational, which declined to be identified but which is listed HP pavilion dv1000 Battery in the US, is trying to obtain 18 iPads for board members.
A UK-based global energy company is waiting for an order it put in on the day the iPad 2 went on sale. The company held its first paperless board meeting last week with directors using laptops.
