Google has not yet given concrete word

Today, British developer and hacker Ben Reyes wrote a post describing how he was able to use an expired domain to access to another person’s Gmail, Google calendar, contacts, and more, which then, in turn, allowed him to access further web accounts, like Amazon.
It started when Reyes recently attempted to link a newly registered domain to Google Apps. The Google Apps page immediately responded to the request, saying that the domain had already been registered. Thank you, try again. This was because the previous owner of the domain name had left it tied to Google Apps. So Reyes went through the domain reclamation process, proved he was the new owner, and shabang, he was granted access.
Once he signed in, the fun started. Google apps gave him a choice of two administrator accounts, so he chose one at random, picked a new password, and signed in. He then found himself gazing at the entire email history, calendars, and contacts owned by someone he didn’t know. If Reyes had been harboring malicious intentions, he presumably could have used this information to launch an attack on the person as well as the organizations the person had patronized.
He was able to quickly discover that the person in question was the owner of an Amazon Web Services account, so he sent Amazon a password reset request, changed the password, and was quickly granted access. Considering Amazon and most other online services simply require an email address to reclaim an account, you can see the potential for some serious identity theft here. Not only that, but with access to AWS, Reyes could easily recover the person’s name, address, and the last 4 digits of their credit card. Yikes.
Again, someone with a greater facility with the dark side could easily use the information above to squirm their way into the person’s PayPal account to steal further financial information, not to mention files and personal information stored on Dropbox and Facebook.Dell latitude d400 Battery,Dell kd476 Batteries
Reyes of course alerted the owner of the AWS account he had accessed, making them aware of their vulnerability — and to his blog post, which he had subsequently published on Hacker News. In fact, it turns out that the person in question is the senior lead at a well-funded and fairly well-known startup. So, if this can happen to someone with technical know-how, it can happen to anybody.
Reyes has also contacted Google to make them aware of the security loophole. Google has not yet given concrete word as to whether or not they’ve fixed the problem, but this just illuminates the larger issue at hand here, which is that he could have easily accessed the person’s Amazon account using a wildcard email address. Meaning that it’s pretty easy to steal your personal information through an expired domain linked to Google Apps.
According to Stuckdomains, there are more than 33 million expired domains on the Web. I think many of us have let a domain name or two expire, but clearly doing so with other accounts still attached to it poses a huge security risk. Even if an expired domain isn’t attached to Google Apps, one could still use, say, an Amazon account to gather personal info.
But Google Apps obviously provides an easier way for someone to discover what accounts are already tied to the domain. And this goes for the non-technical as well. You don’t have to be a hacker. Many of us legitimately tie domains to Google Apps and could experience the same.
Reyes and I agreed that this may cause VCs and investors (not to mention people across the board) to rush back to those forgotten domains to re-register — for the sake of preventing their email addresses from being leaked to eager young startups. (God forbid.) And more.
After all, a few users in the post’s comment section on Hacker News said that they’d already written scripts to scan all newly expired domain names to check to see if they’re connected with Google Apps. Megamark16 chimed in, saying, “It took me about 10 minutes to write a python script that grabs a list of recently expired domains and checks each domain to see if it’s a valid Google Apps domain. This is a pretty serious issue, if indeed it’s still possible to take ownership of accounts as the article suggests”.

Digital camera Care Guide - how to capture memories

You’ll want to capture those memories with your digital camera. But did you realize that some cameras are better for adventure vacations, while others are better for sightseeing? If you are serious about getting the best photos from your vacation, you may want to check out the various types of digital cameras battery and their suggested uses.Olympus bls-1 Digital Camera battery
Firstly, which type of vacation are you planning? Are you headed to Hawaii to scuba dive, off to scale a mountain, just hanging out at the poolside, taking a sightseeing tour, or perhaps just hitting the highways for a little fun road trip? According to an article written by Molly McHugh, DigitalTrends, you should “pick up the right device for your vacation needs.” Molly has some camera suggestions to match with your vacation plans.
Adventure—scuba diving, mountain climbing, or water parks destinations are best served by having a rugged camera. You may think that just getting a rugged case for your DSLR camera will do the trick, but it makes for awkward access to your camera. And if you are in the middle of adventure like repelling from the side of a mountain, you probably don’t want to waste time setting your shutter speed. Ms. McHugh suggests 2 cameras for the adventure vacations: Olympus TG-610, Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5.
Backpacking—whether you are backpacking the trails or just going from city to city in Europe with a backpack on your back, you’ll want a lightweight camera. Ms. McHugh suggests an inexpensive point-and-shoot camera. Yes there are lightweight DSLRs out now, but these are pretty pricey. Depending on whether or not you are backpacking trails or cities, you may want a camera that if lost or damaged won’t make you cry over the expense. Ms. McHugh suggests the Canon PowerShot S95 or Nikon Coolpix P300.
digital camera battery news:
Relaxation—chilling by the pool? You will probably want some great shots that can best be captured by a compact DSLR which will give you higher quality photos as well as be lightweight. The point-and-shoot digital cameras will give you good photos and perhaps have better battery life, but if you are willing to put out the money for the relaxing vacation, you will probably want more professional looking photos as well. Ms. McHugh suggests the Olympus XZ1 or Sony Alpha NEX-5.
Sightseeing—is your main objective to see the sights? You’ll want to capture the scenery with exceptional quality photos. IN that case, Ms. McHugh suggests you get a quality DSLR camera: Canon EOS Rebel T3i orNikon D7000.
Road Trip—headed off with a car packed to the gills? Ms. McHugh recommends a “micro four thirds can lend a new angle to your more typical roadside attractions and upgrade what used to be boring photos of your car parked beside national monuments.” According to an article by David Elrich, DigitalTrends, the “micro four thirds” format has a large imaging sensor, smaller size and interchangeable lenses so you can get the photographic benefits of a DSLR without breaking your shoulder carrying it around all day. Molly McHugh’s suggestion is grab either a Olympus PENE-PL1 or E-PL2.

Reduced to basics energy is a measure of the amount of electricity a battery

While lithium-ion battery packs are smaller and lighter than their lead-acid counterparts, both types of batteries are ridiculously heavy substitutes for a fuel tank. The sad part is that whispers from hippos have convinced dreamers of all ages that energy is more valuable than power and diverted attention from the harsh truth that no current battery technology is cheap enough or light enough to make electric drive competitive with internal combustion.
Reduced to basics energy is a measure of the amount of electricity a battery can store while power is a measure of how quickly the battery can deliver its stored electricity. While energy applications typically cycle a Dell inspiron 1720 Battery once or twice a day, power applications usually cycle a battery dozens of times a day. Once you accept the idea that each charge-discharge cycle has a determinable value, it's easy to see why the payback from power applications usually exceeds the payback from energy applications by a wide margin.
Hippos in pink tutus want us to believe a new age of electric drive is just around the corner. But at last December's United Nations Climate Change Conference in Cancun, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu offered an entirely different and uncharacteristically blunt assessment:
And what would it take to be competitive? It will take a battery, first that can last for 15 years of deep discharges. You need about five as a minimum, but really six- or seven-times higher storage capacity and you need to bring the price down by about a factor of three. And then all of a sudden you have a comparably performing car; let's say a mid-sized car which has a comparable acceleration and a comparable range.
In the simplest of terms, electric drive can't be competitive with internal combustion until somebody invents and commercializes an entirely new class of battery. In the meantime, the market will remain profoundly confused by snake oil suggestions that the cleantech revolution will mirror the progress that information and communications technology made over the last four decades. It's just not going to happen!
The miracle of the iPad isn't the result of better batteries(dell latitude d620 batteryDell latitude e6400 battery). It's better electronics that do more work, but only use a small fraction of the energy the legacy technologies required. The eco-clerics and hopium pushers in our midst do not like these truths, but they're truths nonetheless.
In November of 2008 I created list of 13 pure play storage companies and promised to track their performance over time. Since then I've added five companies to the list (names in italics) and broken it down into peer groups to facilitate comparisons. My basic thesis was that investors who want market-beating performance should invest in companies that make objectively cheap energy storage products and avoid hippos in pink tutus. Since today is the 201st article in this series, it seems like a good time to take a look at how my thesis has held up over the last 2-1/2 years.
The price performance of the companies in my tracking list is summarized below. Prices have been adjusted for reverse splits where appropriate. The starting price for A123 Systems is its September 2009 IPO price. The starting price for New Energy Systems is the first reported closing price after its July 2009 reverse merger. Since trading in China Ritar Power is currently suspended, I've reported that stock as a total loss even though I believe such an outcome is unlikely.
Compaq nc6400 laptop battery
Overall my tracking categories have performed about the way I expected they would.
The Chinese companies have suffered immense damage from widely disseminated rumors of flakey accounting and reporting practices that are based on conjecture advanced by short-sellers. While I would like to believe the Chinese companies can't all be as bad as the innuendo suggests, I don't have the time or the inclination to do the kind of detailed on-the-ground investigations I'd need before jumping into the middle of a dogfight. Therefore I'll be watching that drama from the sidelines.
My only bad pick was C&D Technologies, which reported an unexpected intangible asset impairment dell inspiron 6400 battery mitac bp-8050 battery late last year and was forced into a restructuring that converted most of its debt to equity. Based on its recent earnings report it looks like C&D is well on the road to recovery and should outperform its peer group on a go-forward basis.
While Axion Power has been quite volatile and took a beating in 2010, I believe its poor performance was due primarily to supply and demand dynamics. In November 2008, Axion was an unknown company that traded by appointment. In late 2009 it closed on a huge private placement that more than doubled the number of outstanding shares. As the private placement purchasers sold their shares into the market, the price fell. For the twelve-month periods ended April 30, 2009, 2010 and 2011, the reported trading volumes were 3.5 million, 8.2 million and 50.3 million shares, respectively. In my experience, no public company can withstand that kind of selling pressure and volume ramp without at least a little suffering along the way.

Dell New 10-inch Tablet offer up to 8 hours of battery life

HP for their EliteBook family of professional-grade notebook computers will be making some new additions soon. New reports have exposed a new standard notebook and a newconvertible tablet PC (a notebook with a swivel touchscreen LCD).
The names for these new models are HP EliteBook 2560p and HP EliteBook 2760p Tablet PC. Release dates are unknown as well as prices but the features coming with either model are available. For the main features keep on reading.
First off these models offer LED back-lit 12.5-inch HD anti-glare displays as a standard, but the 2760p will offer a touch support (pen only option and pen + finger option) and WXGA (1280×800) HD instead of the HD  (1366 x 768) the 2560p possess.Dell inspiron 6400 batteryDell inspiron 1525 Battery
Other things like system storage and system memory these notebooks have nice offerings. Both have speedy DDR3 memory up to 8GB and max. 320GB (2760p) or 500GB (2560p) HDD (7200RPM) or a 160GB SSD (faster than HDD by good margin on average) storage solutions.
As for processing prowess these two EliteBooks have options from the up-to-date Core i5 an i7Intel Sandy Bridge chips. Options include dual-core chips only; a 2.30 GHz Intel Core i5-2410M, a 2.50 GHz Intel Core i5-2520M, a 2.60 GHz Intel Core i5-2540M and a 2.70 GHz Intel Core i7-2620M. If you don’t follow processor tech. too much each of those chips will be enough for all office applications and of course multi-tasking.
Other Business News
For features you should expect in any modern laptop, ports and wireless connectivity, these models have a lot of them. Both models will come with two USB 2.0 ports (one is powered so you can charge other devices) and a combo USB 2.0 and eSATA (fast port good for external hard drives or CD/DVD/Blu-ray drives). There is also Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR standard for wireless connectivity on either model but you can configure up to HSPA+ Mobile Broadband too.
A connector port that seems to be missing for either of these upcoming models is a native HDMI output. Both the HP EliteBook 2560p and 2760p tablet have only VGA video output built-in and the 2560p has DisplayPort connector.
HP has kept the austere, down-to-business look of previous EliteBooks with its latest industrial design, but dressed it up a bead-blasted platinum finish, chemically strengthened glass trackpad, brushed-aluminum keyboard deck, and aluminum alloy hinges. Even the little details received attention. The janky capacitive touch buttons above the keyboard that were in vogue a few years back have reverted to hard buttons you can actually click. The bottom – normally a No Man’s Land of vents, labels, logos doors and slots, has been stripped, sculpted and styled into a relatively smooth plane of black plastic with a single access door. In a nod to the MacBook’s microscopic LEDs, the front has laser-cut indicators for Wi-Fi, power, charging and disk drive activity. This is a clean-looking notebook.
At 6.01 pounds, the EliteBook falls at the heavier end of the spectrum for 15-inch notebooks. A budget box like Gateway’s EV Series can easily hit 5.3 pounds, and even the comparably tough MacBook Pro 15 weighs 5.6 pounds. The extra weight makes the EliteBook a bit of a bear to handle with one hand, but it doesn’t quite reach the oppressive weight of a true desktop replacement. Depth of 1.34 inches is also nothing to brag about, but it comes with the territory in the “business rugged” class. A fully rugged notebook like Panasonic’s ToughBook 52, for by comparison, spans a porky two inches.

How to faster charging to better batteries

One of the downsides of a life that depends on battery-powered gadgets could be about to get better. Researchers have developed a battery that charges up to 100 times faster than existing types, yet will last just as long.
If it makes the transition from lab to commercial production successfully it could mean cellphones that charge in seconds and laptops with batteries(Compaq 484170-001 battery) that are replenished in minutes.
The battery's greatest potential, however, could be in electric cars. If the cars were faster to recharge, one of the main obstacles to getting more of them on the roads would vanish.
The battery is the result of a decade's work by researchers under Paul Braun at the University of Illinois. Their results were described in the online journal Nature Nanotechnology in March, catching the attention of technology media.
All batteries consist of two electrodes - an anode and a cathode - which are connected by a conductor, or electrolyte. When we're yabbering away on our cellphones, negatively charged electrons are flowing through the phone's circuitry from the anode to the cathode.
Positive ions go through the electrolyte from anode to cathode to balance the charge at both electrodes.
The secret to speedy recharging, which involves sending electrons and ions in the reverse direction, is to maximise the contact between electrolyte and electrode by using a thin material with a large surface area. But a small volume of active material also means little energy-storage capacity.
Braun and colleagues have used nanotechnology to get both: their technique - which is equally applicable to the lithium-ion battery of a cellphone or laptop and the nickel-metal hydride type found in Toyota's Prius - creates a 3D structure that has both the volume needed for energy storage and a large surface area for quick charging.
laptop-handshake-2sm
As he told the BBC, the structure enables them to "get electrons in and out of the battery much faster" - not through any new material but by changing the way the battery is assembled.
"What we build looks like a three-dimensional honeycomb, and that honeycomb is designed to allow everything to move fast. And because things move fast, we can make a Hp pavilion dv4 battery that you can charge in seconds instead of minutes to hours."
If there's scepticism about the design, it's about whether what Braun has managed to do in the lab can be mass-produced.
In the lab they begin by coating a surface with a lattice of tightly packed tiny spheres, filling the space between and around the spheres with metal. The spheres are then melted or dissolved, leaving a porous 3D metal scaffolding.
By a process called electropolishing, the pores are enlarged to make an open framework that is coated with a thin film of active material.
According to the researchers, all the lab processes are used in industry and could be scaled up for battery manufacturing.
But MIT's Technology Review magazine reports that Jeff Dahn, professor of physics at Canada's Dalhousie University, is doubting whether commercial products would ever result. "When you look at the flow chart for making this structure it's pretty complicated, and that is going to be expensive," he said.
Braun can see the batteries having a future in electric cars, although "that's going to be down the road, so to say".
"Potentially you could have a car that pulls up to the equivalent of a petrol station and in a matter of minutes refill the battery and drive away." Ian Wright, a Kiwi electric-vehicle pioneer based in Silicon Valley, California, thinks battery affordability and limited range are bigger obstacles than recharging to getting more electric cars on the roads.
"A new fast-charge battery won't make any difference, unless it is also a very cheap fast-charge battery, which is not likely."Hp pavilion g50 laptop battery
Wright, maker of the X1 high-performance electric car, says that fast-charge batteries will require a lot of power to be delivered to charging stations, which is technically feasible but not economic. Nor is the Braun group's battery unique, says Wright, with Nevada company Altairnano making similar performance claims for a nano-structured lithium titanate Hp 484170-001 battery.
Braun plans to start small, making cellphone and laptop power packs, because of the manufacturing challenges of producing automotive batteries.
"The technology in the lab has worked exceptionally well and we're quite excited about it ... the step now is to scale this up and do it in large quantities," he said.
